Stewart and Elizabeth Hunt found the inspiration for their new tour company in the writings of Scottish author and naturalist Gavin Maxwell.

In the early years they had no idea that their passion would become their livelihood but as they introduced family and friends to their findings and received a lot of positive response, the idea of Maxwell’s Heartland Tours was born.

Stewart, steeped in the history, myths and legends of Scotland wanted to share his love of his country and as he travelled around both in Scotland and abroad he realised that there were many people who thirsted for the knowledge he possessed. He wanted to show off the beauty of Scotland personally and make visitors feel like friends as they relaxed on his comfortable coaches.

Maxwell’s Heartland Tours was launched at Easter 2006, with Stewart as driver and guide while Elizabeth ran the Company from their office.

The tours the company ran were carefully planned to give visitors the best possible scenic and historical background of Scotland and pride was taken in the fact that Maxwell’s Heartland Tours were one of the first companies to operate out of the UK’s second city – Glasgow.

From small beginnings the Company has carefully expanded to include others with the same love of Scotland and a pride in the City of Glasgow. Stewart and Elizabeth still retain control of the Company and are justly proud of the fact that many of their customers return to them each year and regard them as friends.
